 अखिल रसिक चक्र चूड़ामणि परम रसावतार श्री गोस्वामी हरिदास जी महाराज इस भूतल पर नित्यविहार को प्रकट करने के लिये प्रिया-प्रियतम के निज महल से अवतरित हुए थे। उस समय विधर्मियों का साम्राज्य था। धर्म, कर्मकाण्ड के भँवर में फ़ंसा हुआ था, तब वह अति सूक्ष्म धर्म अर्थात् नित्यविहार स्वामीजी महाराज ने प्रकट किया। उन्होंने जिस रस-रीति का प्रवर्तन किया वह अनोखी थी। जिस पथ को प्राप्त करने के लिए बड़े-बड़े मुनिजन नेत्र बंद कर नासिका पकड़ कर ध्यान साधते हैं, वेद जिस पथ को प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता, उसी अनन्य रसिकों के बाँके पथ को स्वामी श्री हरिदास जी महाराज ने विश्व में प्रकाशित किया और नि:शंक होकर नवीन रस-रीति का प्रवर्तन किया, जैसा की स्वयं बल्लभ-पथगामी श्रीगोविंद स्वामी जी ने उनकी प्रशंसा में लिखा है-

                                 रसिक अनन्यनि कौ पथ बाँकौ।                               

 जा पथ कौ पथ लेत महामुनि, मूँदत नैंन गहैं नित नाकौ॥जा पथ कौ पछितात हैं वेद, लहैं नहिं भेद रहैं जकि जाकौ॥सो पथ श्रीहरिदास लह्यौ, रसरीति की प्रीति चलाइ निसाँकौं॥निसाननि बाजत गाजत गोविन्द, रसिक अनन्यनि कौ पथ बाँकौ॥

श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी महाराज का जन्म इस धराधाम पर संवत 1535 (सन 1478) में भाद्रपद शुक्ल पक्ष अष्टमी को उस समय हुआ था जब ब्रज में वृषभानु नंदिनी श्री किशोरीजी का जन्मोत्सव मनाया जा रहा था। उनके पिता प्रसिद्ध शिरोमणि श्री अशुधीर जी महाराज थे और माता का नाम श्रीमती गंगा देवी था। यह परिवार मूलतः पंजाब के मुल्तान प्रदेश का निवासी था लेकिन ब्रज-प्रेम के वशीभूत होकर श्री आशुधीर जी महाराज कोल (ब्रज की कोर) आकर बस गए थे। वहीं श्री स्वामी हरिदासजी महाराज का जन्म हुआ और इन्हीं के नाम पर उस परम पवित्र स्थान का नाम ‘हरिदासपुर’ प्रसिद्ध हुआ। यह स्थान अलीगढ से 3 मील दूर खैर मार्ग पर स्थित है। इसी गाँव में श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी महाराज के भाइयों -श्री स्वामी जगन्नाथ जी एवं गोविन्द जी का जन्म हुआ।

श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी अपने दिव्य गुणों का प्रकाश करते हुए घर में 25 वर्ष तक रहे। उनका विवाह एक परम सुंदरी ब्राह्मणी कन्या से हुआ परन्तु श्रीस्वामी हरिदास जी जिस दिव्य रस में मग्न थे, उसके समक्ष अन्य सब बंधन व्यर्थ थे। उनकी पत्नी जब हरिदास जी के दर्शन को आईं तभी दीपक की लौ से उनका शरीर छू गया और वे प्रकाश रुपी होकर श्री स्वामी जी के चरणों में विलीन हो गईं, यह एक विलक्षण घटना थी।

अपने समस्त धन-धाम का परित्याग कर श्रीस्वामी हरिदास जी अपने पूज्य पिता श्री अशुधीर जी महाराज से दीक्षा लेकर श्रीधाम वृन्दावन में परम रमणीय निधिवन नामक नित्यविहार की भूमि में आकर निवास करने लगे। उस समय वृन्दावन एक गहन वन था। स्वामी जी ने वृन्दावन में निवास किया और वहाँ परम विलक्षण रस-रीति का प्रवर्तन किया। श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी महाराज नित्य-निकुँज लीलाओं में ललित स्वरुप हैं वे नित्यविहार के नित्य समुद्र में रस मग्न रहकर प्रिया-प्रियतम का साक्षात्कार करते हुए उन्हीं की केलियों का गान करते थे।

श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी संगीत के महँ आचार्य थे। जिस समय ग्वालियर का राजा मानसिंह तौमर संगीत के विद्वानों को एकत्र कर ब्रजभाषा में ध्रुपदों की रचनाओं का संग्रह कर रहा था। उसी समय हरिदास जी इस पावन निधिवनराज में नित्यविहार के रस से सराबोर ध्रुपदों की रचना कर रहे थे। इनके तानसेन, बैजुबाबरा आदि शिष्यों ने संगीत का प्रचार-प्रसार किया। तानसेन को भी इनके दिव्य संगीत का एक कण मात्र प्राप्त हुआ था। तानसेन अपने आश्रयदाता सम्राट अकबर के साथ वृन्दावन में श्रीहरिदास जी के दर्शन के लिए आया था। अकबर के आगमन पर अनेक कलाकारों ने विभिन्न चित्रों की रचना की, ये चित्र आज भी विभिन्न संग्रहालयों में हैं। इनमें श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी को तानपूरे पर संगीत गान करते हुए, सामने तानसेन को बैठा हुआ, उसके पीछे सम्राट अकबर को खड़ा हुआ चित्रित किया गया है। श्री स्वामी हरिदास जी महाराज अष्टादश सिद्धांत के पद, श्रीकेलिमाल आदि ग्रंथो के रचयिता हैं।

The ritual he enforced was unique. The path to which the great munizans close their eyes and meditate by holding the nose, the path which the Vedas cannot achieve, the same path of the unique rituals, was published by Swami Shri Haridas Ji Maharaj in the world and he was free. Being shank, he introduced the new ritual, as Ballabh-Pathgami Srigovind Swamiji himself wrote in his praise- 

Rasik Ananya Kani Path Banko.  

Ja path ka path lay mahamuni, moondat nain gahen nayat nakau

a path kau pachhitaat hain ved, lahain nahin bhed rahain jaki jaakau.

so path shree haridaas lahyau, ras reeti kee preeti chalaee nisaank

Shri Swami Haridas Ji Maharaj was born on this day in Samvat 1535 (1478) on Bhadrapada Shukla Paksha Ashtami when the birth anniversary of Vrishabhanu Nandini Shri Kishoriji was being celebrated in Braj. His father was the famous Shiromani Shri Ashudhir Ji Maharaj and mother's name was Shrimati Ganga Devi. This family was originally a resident of Multan region of Punjab, but under the influence of Braj-Prem, Shri Ashudhir Ji Maharaj Kol (Corps of Braj) came and settled. At the same time, Shri Swami Haridasji Maharaj was born and the name of that supreme holy place 'Haridaspur' became famous after him. The place is located on the Khair Marg, 3 miles from Aligarh. . It was in this village that Shri Swami Haridas Ji Maharaj's brothers, Shri Swami Jagannathji and Govind Ji were born.

Shri Swami Haridas Ji lived in the house for 25 years, highlighting his divine qualities. He was married to a supremely beautiful Brahmin girl, but all the other bonds were meaningless in front of the divine juice in which Sriswami Haridas ji was engrossed. When his wife came to see Haridas ji, the flame of the lamp touched her body and she lighted and merged at the feet of Shri Swami ji, it was a unique event.

After abandoning all his wealth, ShriSwami Haridas ji took initiation from his revered father Shri Ashudhirji Maharaj and started living in the land of Nityavihar named Param Ramayee Nidhivan in Sridham Vrindavan. At that time Vrindavan was a deep forest. Swamiji resided in Vrindavan and enforced the supreme eccentricity there. Shri Swami Haridas ji Maharaj is well versed in the Nitya-Nikunj leelas and used to sing praises of his bananas while interviewing Priya-Prietam, while being immersed in the continual sea of ​​Nityavihara.

Shri Swami Haridas ji was the great teacher of music. At that time, Raja Mansingh Tumar of Gwalior was collecting music scholars and collecting the compositions of Dhrupadas in Braj Bhasha. At the same time Haridas ji was composing dhrupads in this holy Nidivanraj with the juice of Nityavihara. . His Tansen, Baijubabra etc. disciples promoted music. Tansen too received only a particle of his divine music. Tansen came to Vrindavan with his refugee Emperor Akbar to see Shriharidas ji. On the arrival of Akbar, many artists created various paintings, these paintings are still in various museums. In this, Swami Haridas ji is pictured singing music on Tannapure, with Tansen sitting in front, Emperor Akbar standing behind him. Shri Swami Haridas Ji Maharaj is the author of the texts of Ashtadash Siddhanta, Srikelimal, etc.
